The National Undergraduate Conference, SPACE-UG 2025, held on September 26th and 27th, was a dynamic blend of learning and fun, drawing over 60 enthusiastic participants from across the country. Day one featured engaging online sessions, including e-poster presentations, comic strips, dental cosplay, and rapid review lectures. The offline day was marked by expert talks on NEET and NExT exams, hands-on training sessions and an exciting interactive game show. The event provided a unique platform for undergraduates to enhance their clinical skills, research perspectives and professional confidence in Pediatric Dentistry. With vibrant participation and enriching discussions, SPACE-UG truly embodied its theme—You Think. We Train. Together We Transform.

The 7th edition of SPARC – Saveetha’s Pedodontic Advanced Revision Course, organized by the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry in association with the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, was held on 11th and 12th September 2025. The two-day program proved to be an enlightening and impactful event. The sessions covered a wide spectrum of topics delivered by eminent speakers from the field. Engaging lectures, interactive discussions and a quiz session ensured active participation and effective learning. The program not only provided academic revision but also valuable insights into clinical practice and career opportunities post-graduation. With a blend of knowledge, motivation and practical guidance, SPARC 2025 successfully fueled the preparation journey of budding pedodontists, making it a truly worthy academic experience.

Dr. Deepa G and Dr. Mahesh R, esteemed professors of Dept. Of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry presented guest lectures at the "Nitty Gritty of General Anesthesia for Dental Procedures" workshop conducted on April 11, 2025, in MAIDS, New Delhi. Dr. Deepa showcased her expertise in pediatric care and anesthesia communication. Dr. Mahesh offered in-depth knowledge of clinical protocols and intraoperative management. Their sessions brought enhanced understanding to the audience in terms of pre-operative assessments, anesthesia protocols and post-operative care in pediatric dental procedures under GA.

Gain with No Pain (16th editon) once again encompassed insightful lectures, live demonstrations, and an interactive hands-on experience on advanced techniques in conscious sedation and general anesthesia. The sessions were moderated by esteemed speakers Dr. Navaneetha K, Dr. Ramsesh, Dr. Preethi, Dr. Deepa G, Dr. Mahesh R and Dr. Maria, who shared their expertise and clinical insights on all topics pertaining to the subject.

The program drew practitioners and pediatric postgraduates from across the country, offering them valuable practical experience in full mouth rehabilitation treatments for pediatric patients.

Presurgical Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) for Cleft Lip and Palate was held on 11th February 2025. Dr. Vinod Kumar, Professor and Head of the Dept. of Pediatric Dentistry, Navodaya Dental College, led a comprehensive lecture on the topic. The workshop included a demonstration and hands-on appliance fabrication session. The workshop offered valuable insights into NAM procedures, case selection, construction techniques, and clinical applications, enhancing surgical outcomes and aesthetic results.

The Dept. of Pediatric Dentistry witnessed numerous accolades in the 21st ISPPD National PG Convention which took place on 30th and 31st January 2025 at Terna Dental College, Mumbai. Our HOD’s Dr. Deepa G and Dr. Mahesh R conducted a pre-conference course on Edelweiss Pediatric crowns and veneers, whereas Dr. Ganesh J and Dr. Vignesh R conducted a pre-conference course on Smart space maintainers and regenerative endodontic materials. Our dear faculty Dr. Pooja R won the “Best Paper” presentation under the faculty category. Our postgraduates Dr. Thendral and Dr. Bhuvaneshwari won the “Best paper” presentations and our first years Dr. Ashish and Dr. Rasika won the “Best Poster” presentations. Overall, it was a fulfilling and insightful experience.

The 15th edition of “Gain with No Pain” was a CDE program featuring lectures, demonstrations, and a hands-on workshop on various techniques in conscious sedation and general anesthesia.

The program attracted practitioners and pediatric postgraduates from across the country, providing them with hands-on experience in full mouth rehabilitation treatments for pediatric patients.

Dr. Krishnakumar R and Dr. Shruti Jayasurya were invited to give a guest lecture on the topic of “Management of Class III Malocclusion” and “Pediatric Dentistry and Lactation: A Perspective” respectively on May 31st 2024. The lectures were insightful and the post-graduates were engaged in an active interactive session. They were also encouraged to further studies regarding lactation and early childhood caries and enhance their orthodontic skills through learned diagnosis.

The 14th edition of “Gain with No Pain” is a CDE programme with lectures, demonstrations & a hands-on workshop on various techniques of Conscious sedation & General Anesthesia.

The ISPPD 20th Post-Graduate convention “ PEDODALES” was held in Dehradun from February 22nd-24th, 2024. The Head of Clinics, Prof. Dr. Ganesh and Head of Research, Dr. Vignesh conducted a pre-conference workshop on Pediatric Rotary Endodontics for 50 participants. Our PG’s participated in the pre-conference courses and presented scientific posters and papers. Dr. Divya. M, III MDS bagged the “Best Paper” award. It was a fruitful learning and enjoyable experience to all.

Prof. Dr. Deepa Gurunathan, Head of the Department was invited to present a guest lecture in Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai on February 17th, 2024. Her passion for research was showcased in the topic “Reinforcing the realms of Dental Research”. Dr. Deepa delivered an insightful and thought-provoking content leaving her audience inspired.

Our Head of Academics, Prof. Dr. Mahesh Ramakrishnan was invited as the guest speaker at the 4th International Conference of South Asian Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Hyderabad, India. He presented the lecture on “General Anesthesia in Pediatric Practice- Tips & Tricks”

On the event of Founders Day-2023, The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry was announced the Best Department at No.12 with a score of 86,877 amongst all the colleges under Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) University.

The Dental Faculty of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh visited the extensive Saveetha Dental College campus.

The 10th edition of STAR SUMMIT was a 5-day research summit that was conducted in Saveetha Dental College.

In regards to the Teacher’s day celebration during the month of September, we conducted a camp and honoured the teachers who educate the young minds in an educational institute near Maduravoyal, Chennai.

Teachers were educated regarding the oral hygiene measures and post traumatic care to be taken for young children during school hours. They were also honoured based on their academic works to the educational institute and educating young minds to pursue their future endeavours.

A team of 1 faculty and 3 post grads from Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal visited our department for attending a STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME conducted by Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai.

The attendees were shown the different aspects of our department and the state of the art facilities that were available in the institution.

They interacted with our postgrads and faculties and had the opportunity of exchange of knowledge and research across both the institutions.

The SAVEETHA’s PEDO TALK SERIES is a rapid series of one-hour virtual sessions with relevance to pedodontics and research aspects.

Approximately 100 participants were virtually present to attend the sessions despite the pandemic situation.

The guest speakers were Dr. Rupesh, Dr. Kavita Kumar, Dr. Kirthiga, Dr. Vignesh and Dr. Veerale who came forward to share their knowledge.

The STAR SUMMIT 2021 is a one-week extravaganza to showcase the research efforts of Undergrads and Postgrads in the field of dentistry.

Approximately 80 posters pertaining to Pediatric Dentistry were presented to 10 judges and 30 peer judges.

The sessions were concluded under the eminent presence of Dr. Radhikka Muppa (Vice-President of Indian Society of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry)

5th Saveetha’s Pedodontic Advanced Revision Course is a 2-day programme conducted for providing a complete revision of the core subject areas essential for the post graduation course in Pediatric Dentistry.

Eminent speakers from various dental colleges throughout India like Dr. Thariyan Emmatty, Dr. Sharath Asokan, Dr. Jeeva Rathan, Dr. Rekha, Dr. Velmurugan, came forward to share their knowledge in the respective field of interest which helped in the rapid revision of the topics.

The 2nd edition of SMART SCULPT is a CDE-programme + Workshop where the undergrads and postgrads were provided a platform to present their research studies as paper presentations related to pediatric endodontics and pediatric dental crowns.

Many students won Best presentation awards as a token of appreciation for their efforts in research.

There were 2 lectures related to the above topics and a short hands-on trial on the use of the rotary files and Figaro crowns.

The 2nd edition of NOO - A no to anxiety is a CDE programme with Hands-on on Concious sedation and intranasal sedation.

Eminent speakers like Dr. Navaneethan, Dr. Deepa G, Dr. Geo Mani and Dr. Mebin Mathew shared their knowledge on the topic.

Hands-on was provided by Dr. Navaneethan and Dr. Veerale Panchal regarding the guidelines and protocols on usage of sedation.

The Oral Microbiome is a CDE programme completely based on the the microbiological environment of the oral cavity.

The chief International guest speaker was Dr. Gülcan Şahin from Turkey. Other renowned speakers were Dr. Mogit Gupta, Dr. Asha, Dr, Gifrina and Dr. Rakshagan.

The speakers provided and insight on the oral microbiome in the perspective of oral medicine, oral pathology, periodontics and prosthodontics.

The first edition of Saveetha’s Headway on Advanced Revision in Pediatric Dentistry is a National CDE Programme in collaboration with Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry.

Eminent speakers from the society shared their knowledge and provided an insight on the recent treatment modalities in Pediatric Dentistry for General Practitioners.

39th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry conference was held in Chennai in 2017.

As a part of the pre-conference courses, Saveetha’s Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry hosted the General Anesthesia workshop.

Top speakers related to the speciality field showed their clinical skills in treating children under General anaesthesia.

A hands-on was also provided to the delegates on full mouth rehabilitation case.

The Crowning the Brownie is a CDE programme focusing on the stainless steel crowns used in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Sujatha S is the chief coordinator, along with Dr. Kandaswamy explained the theoretical and clinical tips and tricks in placement of the crowns.

There was a hands-on sessions for the budding undergrads as well.
